Viaggi Dell'Elefante

Viaggi dell'Elefante, founded by Vittorio Ducrot in 1974, is Italy's oldest high-end tour operator brand. From the outset, its identity was to offer high-spending customers both the highest level of service and a wide range of destinations around the world.

Viaggi dell'Elefante's first destinations were Indonesia, Tanzania, Thailand, Kenya, Mexico, India, Syria and Jordan, Madagascar and Polynesia. From then until now, in each of these destinations, the most comfortable accommodation, the most knowledgeable local guides, the best tour leaders and the most prestigious airlines have been meticulously selected. In the beginning, the type of travel was mainly group travel; over time, as customers became accustomed to visiting exotic countries, “tailor-made” travel developed: trips designed according to the wishes and habits of customers thanks to a team of highly qualified travel “artisans”.

In addition to mainly cultural or nature-based trips (safaris), beach destinations such as the Maldives, Mauritius and the Caribbean were added for honeymoons or to satisfy customers' desire to take an experiential trip but also, at the end of the tour, to add a few days of relaxation before returning home.

cataloghi viaggi dell'elefante

Viaggi dell'Elefante's catalogues are unmistakable: the covers feature miniatures and original engravings from the family collection, and the inside pages are embellished with 19th-century engravings from the travel library.

In the 1980s and 1990s, many new destinations were added: historic routes such as the Silk Road (China and Pakistan) and the Incense Road (Oman, Yemen, Saudi Arabia), all the countries of North Africa, South America, Central Asia, Oceania and Europe. In 1990, Enrico Ducrot joined the company after working as an archaeologist in the Middle East. At the beginning of 2000, the new BLU line was developed: the most beautiful beaches in the world. This catalogue, following the wide variety of experiential travel destinations around the world, includes a wide variety of resorts on the most beautiful beaches on the globe.

In 2006, the first Ecoluxury catalogue was published, a brand of the group that aims to guide customers towards destinations and hotels that offer very high levels of service on the one hand and invest part of their margin in protecting and safeguarding their territorial identity on the other.

In 2012, Spazio Ducrot was founded in Rome, at the tour operator's headquarters, a place where cultural events on the theme of travel are organised.

A team of more than 30 experts contribute every day to carrying on the spirit and ideals of the founder by responding to loyal customers, some of whom are now in their third and fourth generations.

The Spazio Ducrot in Rome, inaugurated in November 2012, is not only our new operational headquarters, but also a place that celebrates cultural initiatives related to the kaleidoscopic world of travel. Because every journey is also a source of inspiration.

We give a voice to artists: writers, photographers, painters, journalists and designers among the most important, who tell us their point of view through their art. In these early years, Spazio Ducrot has been the venue for numerous events, including an exhibition of watercolours and charcoal drawings by Stefano Malatesta and Giuseppe Colombo respectively; the photographic exhibition on Laos “Lem. Viaggio iniziatico di un piccolo Buddha” (Lem. The initiatory journey of a little Buddha) by Laura Leonelli; Andrea Attardi's “Breviario Siciliano” (Sicilian Breviary), the watercolour exhibition “Matera” by maestro Pedro Cano, and, recently, “Mingalabar Myanmar”, an exhibition focusing on Burma in support of the initiatives promoted by Statement Arts. We have had the pleasure and honour of hosting book presentations by authors of the calibre of Ilaria Guidantoni and Italo Ferraro, as well as photography books by Giorgio De Pecine and Monika Bulaj.

Spazio Ducrot has two large windows overlooking Via d'Ascanio, between Piazza Firenze and Via della Scrofa, one of the few streets in the historic centre to have retained its original identity.
