>>> Ecoluxury Retreats Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita
Matera | Basilicata
Located in the oldest heart of the Sassi di Matera, Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita is more than a boutique hotel; it is a profound anthropological journey. The property features 18 monumental rooms carved into the limestone, alongside a majestic communal space housed within an ancient rock-hewn church. Spanning three levels of panoramic terraces, the hotel overlooks the sheer drop of the Gravina gorge, facing the dramatic scenery of the Murgia Park and its silent, millennia-old cave churches.
The restoration followed a philosophy of extreme conservative preservation:
Cave Minimalism: The rooms, spanning up to 100 square meters, celebrate space and raw material. The furnishings feature essential lines, often recessed into the rock, and are adorned with early 20th-century linen, creating a dialogue between vintage luxury and modern restraint.
Sensory Hospitality: Each cave welcomes guests with thoughtful touches: flickering fireplaces, artisanal liqueurs, and fresh seasonal fruit. In the morning, the ancient rock church serves as a breakfast hall where the authentic flavors of Basilicata—from local cheeses to homemade pastries—honor Lucanian tradition.
Technological Anachronism: Despite the ancestral atmosphere, every room is equipped with invisible climate control and modern connectivity, ensuring total comfort without compromising the soul of the caves.
