Unexpected Lipari

Your journey begins upon arrival in Catania. A private transfer will whisk you from the airport to the port of Milazzo, where you will board a hydrofoil for Lipari.

Upon arrival, collect your rental car and head toward your sanctuary: the Tenuta di Castellaro Ecoluxury Retreat. Settle into your room and take a moment to enjoy the estate’s refined amenities, perhaps starting with a visit to the excellent on-site bistrot. Dinner not included.

Lipari

Spend your morning immersed in the fascinating history of Lipari’s old town. Accompanied by a private local guide, you will wander the picturesque streets of the ancient village, dominated by the Acropolis and the imposing Castle. Visit the Cathedral of San Bartolomeo with its enchanting Norman cloister before entering the "Luigi Bernabò Brea" Regional Archaeological Museum—one of the most significant in the Mediterranean. Here, the millennia-old history of the Aeolians comes to life through prehistoric, Greek, and Roman treasures, including an extraordinary collection of theatrical masks.

In the late afternoon, return to Tenuta di Castellaro for a gentle 30-minute stroll to the nearby Kaolin Quarries. This is the geologically oldest part of the island, where volcanic activity has painted the rocks in a stunning palette of colors. To protect this heritage, the estate has transformed the quarries into a geo-mining park. End your day with a suggestive picnic among the vineyards as the sun dips below the horizon.

Overnight stay.

In the morning, after breakfast, you will reach the port of Lipari, where you will board a shared boat for an unforgettable day among the wonders of Lipari and Vulcano.

Your adventure begins with a scenic cruise along the eastern coast of Lipari, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. You will sail past the Grotta degli Angeli, the impressive Faraglioni sea stacks, and the bay of Praia Vinci, continuing on toward Vulcanello and the island of Vulcano. Here, your first swimming stop is planned in the clear waters of Cala Piccola.

The navigation will continue along some of the island’s most charming coves, including Cala Grande and Cala Formaggio, until reaching two of the most iconic sites of the Aeolian Islands: the Pool of Venus and the Horse Cave. The Pool of Venus is a spectacular natural basin surrounded by volcanic rocks, with crystal-clear waters ranging from green to deep blue, while the Horse Cave takes its name from the rock formation above the entrance that resembles a horse’s head.

During the tour, you will also admire the striking Lion’s Head rock formation, the Abbot’s Cave, and the black-sand beaches of Asino and Gelso, with additional opportunities for swimming. Sailing past Cannitello, Punta Bandiera and the Sirenetta Rock, a stop is scheduled on the island of Vulcano, where you will have free time to explore the village, relax on the beach or discover the island’s volcanic landscape.

Return to Lipari is scheduled for the afternoon, at the end of a day rich in stunning scenery, crystal-clear waters and unique experiences.

Upon your return to Lipari, you may choose to dine at one of the many restaurants in the town center before heading back to Tenuta di Castellaro for your overnight stay. Dinner at leisure.
